Metals & Mining

The raw materials of industrialization — and the battery metals of electrification.

Yamato Bussan has traded metals since the Meiji era, when copper from our partner mines helped wire a modernizing Japan. Today that same business supplies the cathodes and conductors of electrification.

We hold long-term offtake in iron ore and copper across Chile, Australia and Indonesia, and have moved decisively into battery metals — lithium in South America, nickel in Indonesia — to anchor Japan's EV and storage supply chains. A growing recycling arm closes the loop on copper and aluminium.

Stable Supply and Recycling of Critical Minerals

With the shift to EVs, demand for battery metals such as lithium, nickel, and copper is surging. In addition to securing interests in South America and Southeast Asia, we are expanding our urban mining and metal recycling businesses to build a circular economy for resources.

Focus Areas

  • Advancing low-environmental-impact lithium extraction projects in Chile.
  • Investing in advanced recycling technologies for spent batteries.
