Yamato invests in Indonesian agri-tech to strengthen regional food supply

Through its Food & Agriculture and Next-Gen Digital segments, Yamato is backing an Indonesian agri-tech venture that connects 40,000 smallholder farmers to cold-chain logistics, improving yields and reducing post-harvest loss across Sumatra and Java.

The platform provides farmers with AI-assisted crop diagnostics, real-time market pricing and direct access to Yamato's cold-chain distribution network, supporting both food security and farmer income.

Enhancing Smallholder Farmer Productivity

The provided smart agriculture platform combines weather data, soil sensors, and AI prediction models to notify farmers via smartphone of the optimal timing for fertilizer application and harvesting. This has been proven to increase yields by an average of 20% while significantly reducing water and chemical fertilizer usage. Through collaboration with local startups, Yamato Bussan plans to expand this platform across Southeast Asia.
